A herd of Chilling Mammoths has been traveling through European art institutions for some time now, resting for the ten days of the festival in Nuremberg – in an old yeast factory in the north of Nuremberg. The artist Maya Dunietz is responsible for these more than a dozen self-swinging and self-talking pianos. Together with her long-term collaborators, the all-string Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, in “Sound of Difference” they will enter into dialog for the first time and activate the site; the mammoths will encounter the humanly intended instruments – and vice versa.
Maya Dunietz is a performance artist, improvisational musician and composer. She works in the field of tension between music, visual art, performance, technological research and philosophy.
Founded in Berlin in 2006, the Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop has dedicated itself to the development of new forms of experimental music theater since its inception. The members of the ensemble have developed into musical performers and co-authors of collaborative productions. With its explicitly interdisciplinary and collaborative approach, the ensemble repeatedly connects with artists from different genres and cultural backgrounds. In recent years, the examination of the body has moved further into the focus of the work.
Note: The Chilling Mammoths will perform solo again during the second festival weekend. In addition, you’re invited to make music yourself: On May 31, a workshop will be held from 10-14 h with Boram Lie and Mia Bodet from the Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, followed by a public presentation from 15-16 h. Just bring your instrument or your voice – all levels are warmly welcome!
