Academy Gallery Nuremberg

“In Darkness let me dwell” is a horror musical and an artwork with live elements. At its center stands the split second before the death of a queen – condemned to lose her head.
The piece circles around an act of violence: a state execution that is also an act of rebellion. Like a dark game of chess, each figure follows a mysterious, predetermined plan. They all share one goal: to invent witchcraft and defeat the sun. They all share one fate: inevitable destruction.
Funeral doom, Renaissance lute, and drone music guide the performers through shifting times and spaces. Video and live performance suspend them between life and death.
Failure is certain – but within it lies a moment of release. Headlessness becomes a break from control and order. The devil may be a master escape artist – but even he, sometimes, needs our help.
Caroline Beach is a choreographer, performer, dancer, and musician. Her interdisciplinary work is deeply rooted in the body, exploring themes of absurdity, empathy, and the ritual of failure. She was born in Texas (US) and currently lives in Dresden and Berlin.
